Dear Briggs,

[H.P.106/17. Mr. Eddy 23/6]

This is to acknowledge your letter dated June 20th regarding a war history of the Northern Ireland Region of the Ministry of Information for inclusion with the reports from other Regions in a general history dealing with the work of the Ministry as a whole. I have already been approached to write a very brief note on the work of the Ministry of Information in this Region for Northern Ireland Government war record purposes. The survey for the M.O.I. will be a much lengthier document and I will report progress on the work in a fortnight. We shall not have the wealth of activities to cover which other Regions have enjoyed but this will tend to help the survey as it will not be overcrowded with details and can therefore be made more human.

Yours sincerely,

[C. Frankland.]

Regional Information Officer.

Dear Briggs,

Replying to your circular letter 5625 of the 20th June, I had (as mentioned to you when I saw you on June 8th) already put in hand the preparatory work on a history of the Regional Office. As I did not become R.I.O. until the end of February 1942 I have approached Palmer with a request to let me have as much information as he can, covering the period 1939 to 1941 inclusive. In the meantime we have assembled a good deal of material, and Barrett is combining further research with the job of destroying redundant material in the Regional Registry.

As you have pointed out, the task involves a good deal of work and must necessarily take some time to complete, but in due course I think I can promise you quite an interesting story.

Yours sincerely,

[G.Mackarness.]
